Professor Bernat Soria holds the chair as full Professor of Physiology and Director of the Institute of Bioengineering, Alicante, Spain. He is visiting Professor to the National University of Singapore. He is the current President of the Spanish Society of Diabetes and President elect of the European Biophysics Societies Association. He is also convenor of the Biomedical Engineering Task Force. He has been awarded several coveted prizes, including the National Prize for basic research in Diabetes (1998). His main research interests are into cell and tissue bioengineering, embryonic stem cells, pancreatic B-cell, insulin and diabetes. Sir Roy Calne is Emeritus Professor of Cambridge University, UK, and the Yeoh Ghim Seng Professor of Surgery, National University of Singapore. Dr Susan Lim is Chairman and CEO of Stem Cell Technologies i . She holds in addition to her surgical degrees, a doctorate in transplantation immunology. She successfully pioneered Singapore's first liver transplant operation in 1990, which was also a first for Asia. She was awarded the first National Science and Technology Board Grant for research into islet cell transplantation in 1990 at the National University of Singapore. The thrust of her current research is into Adult Stem Cells. Dr Susan Lim is also visiting Professor to the Institute of Cell and Molecular Science at Barts and the London, UK. She has been appointed Honorary Professor at Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories, and Group Leader, Stem Cell Transplantation, Together the Team are focused on clinical application of Adult Stem Cell Research.
